San Francisco's Top Family Photo Shoot Locations: Crissy Field Outfit, Travel, and Parking Tips

Unfolding the Charm of Crissy Field East Beach: The Perfect Family Photo Spot

Known for its stunning views of the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz, Crissy Field East Beach offers an iconic San Francisco backdrop ideal for capturing memorable family moments. Here, your children can play in the sand while you and your partner pose against the scenic panorama, creating a harmonious blend of intimacy and grandeur. There is also a beautiful wooden bridge that affords a striking contrast to beach photos, only a short walk away.

Fun Fact: Crissy Field was military's first air coast defense station on the Pacific coast. It was transformed in to a National Park in 2001 and is located on an ancient salt marsh and estuary as well as on the unceded ancestral lands of the Ramaytush Ohlone, the original peoples of the San Francisco Peninsula.

Getting to Crissy Field: Travel and Parking Suggestions

Parking: Parking at this location can be a bit of a hustle, particularly during the weekend when it teems with visitors. You’ll find a Crissy Field parking lot right beside East Beach, as well as street parking in front of businesses along Mason Street. The East Beach Parking Lot is your closest option, but keep in mind, spots fill up quickly. For a hassle-free experience, consider using the paid parking services at Sports Basement which is about a 5-7 minute walk from the location.

Travel: Crissy Field is located on the northern end of the Presidio and quite a distance from downtown. To make the most of your family photo session at Crissy Field East Beach, it's advisable to arrive ahead of your scheduled booking time. Considering San Francisco's infamous traffic, an early start can help you avoid any unnecessary delays. Public transportation in San Francisco is efficient. If you prefer, you could take muni route 30-stockton with a stop Mason St & Halleck St. Rideshare options are also plentiful and readily available.

Timing

Ideally, you should aim to schedule your family photo shoot at Crissy Field East Beach just before sunset. These times are often termed as the "golden hours" when the sunlight is at its softest and warmest, offering a beautiful glow for your photos. It's best to avoid midday slots, when the light can be too harsh and not as flattering as there is no sun cover at this location. Early morning is also a great option for even and flattering light. However, we understand that coordinating schedules, especially with young kids and work commitments, can be challenging. Rest assured, we are flexible and will work closely with you to find a time that suits everyone best.

Outfits

Moving onto outfit recommendations, you'll want to harmonize with the beach vibe without blending into the background. Opt for colors that contrast with the sandy beach and azure waters. Subtle shades of white, blues, pinks, or pastels would look splendid. However, avoid hues too similar to the Golden Gate Bridge to ensure you stand out in the pictures.

Imagine the pictures: A light-colored linen dress for mom and dad, paired with pastel shirts and khaki shorts for the kids, against the breathtaking background of crashing waves and the looming bridge. It's the perfect blend of casual and chic!

Props

How about spicing up your family beach photoshoot with some fun props? An idea could be a brightly colored picnic blanket and a classic basket teeming with treats - it'll set up perfectly for a relaxed picnic setting. As for the little ones, playful beach toys like colorful mini shovels and buckets can keep them entertained, yielding delightful candid captures. Also, let's not forget about nature's own props - vibrant seashells and sleek pebbles can add dimension to some beautifully detailed family snapshots. Keep in mind, however, that preparation time for your prop setup should be factored into your schedule. Setting up ahead of your official booking slot can save you valuable time for actual shooting.

Weather

Finally, it's important to note that while Crissy Field East Beach is often shielded from the most intense surf, gusts of wind can pick up, particularly during late afternoons. To ensure comfort, and to allow for some playful wind-induced hair tousling, be sure to dress in layers and carry a lightweight jacket or a cozy cardigan. Remember, your family photoshoot could benefit from some spontaneous moments, and an unexpected gust might result in a perfect candid shot! However, let's not overlook San Francisco's trademark feature - the infamous fog. You might plan your outdoor photoshoot with visions of clear blue skies and the iconic bridge as your background, only to be greeted by a thick blanket of fog. While this can initially seem disappointing, remember, it's this unpredictability that adds to the charm of San Francisco. So, consider this factor when choosing this location for a memorable family photoshoot.
